Dubai Gold Souk - The Gold Market

Dubai Gold Souk or the Dubai Gold Market, is one of the oldest markets in Dubai. The souk consists of over 300 retailers that trade almost exclusively in jewelry. This is one of the best places in the world to buy gold. Some estimates that approximately 10 tons of gold is present at any given time in the souk.

Trade in the gold souk grew during the 1940s due to Dubai's free trade policies that encouraged entrepreneurs from India and Iran to set up stores in the souk. In the shops you can see myriad of treasures and due to the no taxes policies of the country, the price of gold here is the cheapest in the world. If you are invited to a Gypsy wedding, here you will surely find a great gift :) The influence of the Indian culture on the type of Jewelry is so obvious due to the fact that  India is Dubai's largest buyer of gold.

The Gold Souk is in the Deira part of Dubai. A trip to the Gold Souk truly demonstrates why Dubai has earned itself the title City of Gold. It's worth visit even if you have no intention of buying, just to soak in the atmosphere of shop windows glinting with 18, 21, 22 & 24 carat gold, showing-off the abundant riches of this part of the world.

The Dubai Fountain

The Dubai fountain is the world’s largest and one of the world’s tallest fountains, surpassing the Fountains of Bellagio at Las Vegas by a 25%. The Dubai fountains is 275 m (902.2 ft), which is more than the length of two football fields, and has five circles of varying sizes and two central arcs.

The Dubai Fountains can be seen from over 32.2 km (20.0 mi) away up or horizontally if you have a clear line of sight. The fountains can shoot to the maximum height of 150 m (492.1 ft), which is equivalent to a 40-storey building or high enough to wash the windows a fifth of the way up the Burj Khalifa.

The fountain was designed by WET Design, the California-based company responsible for the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. IIt was built at a cost of $218 million USD  which is the total cost of the Fountain’s lake, the fountain, and its filtration system

A true wonder of modern technology it dances well over 6,600 lights of the modern incandescent lighting for fountains and 25 color projectors create a light show unseen. Light rays directed toward the sky can be seen from 30 miles away and is said can be seen from space, making Dubai Fountain the brightest place in the Middle East and possibly around the world.
