The Oriental Princess of Jazz...

Aziza Mustafa Zadeh

A friend of mine from Azerbijan gave me a CD as a gift, she said she wanted to give me something from her home country, she apologized that the CD cover broke in her suitcase. You know what they say: never judge a CD by its cover... Always is the second album released by Azeri jazz artist Aziza Mustafa Zadeh. It was released in 1993, but I only got to listen to it in 2006 what a shame!

It's hard to pinpoint what's so amazing about this record, I think Aziza's vocal and piano talent are incredibly mind-blowing. Well, here you may, trust me, because regardless of your judgment if you like Jazz you will fall in love with this mysterious beauty! The song "A.J.D." the 4th on this album is simply amazing.

Aziza Mustafa Zadeh , also known as The Princess of Jazz, or as Jaziza, was born in Baku, Azerbijan on December 19, 1969 and is an Azerbaijani singer, pianist and composer who plays a fusion of jazz and mugam (a traditional improvisational style of Azerbaijan) with classical and Avant-garde influences. Aziza is apparently the daughter of a famous Azeri pianist. She is definitely a talent in her own right as several tunes on this album show.
